Volunteering

Volunteers are the heart of the Foster Op Shop and Collectables. The make all the difference. They handle essential tasks that keep the operation running smoothly. Their efforts not only support the store's day-to-day activities but also help in raising valuable funds for the aged in the community.

If you are interested in joining the volunteer team, you would not only be contributing to a great cause but also have the opportunity to meet new people, develop new skills, and make a positive difference in the lives of others. It’s a meaningful way to give back and support the community.

We welcome all contributions from 1/2 day a month or once a week. We also appreciate those who join the team as part of their Centrelink agreement.

Volunteer Roles

There is a role for everyone here. Below are some of the volunteer roles we have available. If you're interested please contact us.

Volunteering = Friendship

Register Operator & Customer Service

As the first point of contact for customers, the Register Operator serves as the "face" of the Op Shop. This role involves providing excellent customer service, handling cash transactions and responding to customer inquiries. You will help create a welcoming environment, ensuring a positive experience for everyone who visits the store

Sorting - Other Stock

A small team of volunteers sorts all donated items, allocating them to the appropriate departments. Stock trolleys are used to transport goods, and donation bins are emptied twice a week by the team.

Merchandising & Stock Replacement

This essential role involves arranging stock and creating eye-catching window displays to engage customers. With various departments like toys, manchester, and furniture, stock is allocated accordingly to ensure an organized and appealing shopping experience

Pricing & Research

A dedicated team handles pricing and categorising items as ‘Best,’ ‘Better,’ or ‘Basic.’

High-value or vintage donations are individually researched to determine their accurate worth

Sorting  - Clothing

Given the high volume of donations, a dedicated team is needed several times a week to assess each clothing item. Volunteers evaluate items based on quality, age, and brand, deciding whether to keep, discard, or recycle them

Odd Jobs

Various tasks, including cleaning, mending, building maintenance, yard work, store upkeep, and website maintenance, are essential at the Op Shop. Foster Op Shop & Collectables values the unique skills of volunteers and will work to match you with a role that suits your interests.
